Have A Wonderful Summer!
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” ~Ecclesiastes 3:1
Dearest Spiritual Ohana,
I greet all of you one last time this year, in the rapidly approaching closure of the Paschal Season, with the joyous proclamation of faith: “Christ is risen! Truly He is risen!”
I love the above verse from the Old Testament! It puts a lot of things into perspective.
Entering into the Summer months, we are reminded that everything and all of us are going through a perpetual movement through the cycles of seasons, well at least everywhere else except here in Hawaii where we experience pretty much an eternal Summer! In the “circle of our lives” we are, like the seasons, also in constant movement, in some instances gradual, others immediate and everything in between. Within the dynamics of the seasons and in the time of our existence upon this earth, we have the opportunity to discover, realize and understand our ultimate purpose. This purpose requires a relationship with God that is synergistic, meaning that we work with God and one another. We cannot work on our own, nor can we let God do all the work.
As the earth rotates, we move in and out of the seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter and go through the seasonal cycles time after time until the end of time. Within our lives, in contrast, we are born, we grow up, mature, end our earthly existence and move into the eternal realm outside of time. Our existence does not repeat itself.
With all this being said, I contemplate on all the events that have taken place and all that takes place and will take place in the life of our Saints Constantine and Helen Cathedral here in Honolulu, Hawaii. I think about all the joys, the sorrows, the milestones, the challenges, the victories, the losses, etc.
At this time, I would like to congratulate all of our recent graduates, wishing all of them success in their future and all endeavors they take on. First of all, congratulations to our college graduates, Alexandra Helene and Gabrielle Thompson who have worked so hard in earning their degrees! To our 4 High School Graduates: Elijah Jan Banasihan, Alastair Luke Hwu, Peter Leong and David Melzack, I wish them the very best as they move into adulthood and begin to build and establish their lives.
May God grant rest and everlasting life to our members who have “fallen asleep” in the hope of the Resurrection, especially to our beloved Thalia Tuohy and Ludmyla Solyar who are deeply missed.
We bid farewell with much “Aloha” to all our members who have been with us temporarily and for being each special in his or her own way, namely: Scott, Katy, Luke, Alexander and Rosie Pasieta, along with Jacob Sotiriadis, his friend Emily and his children Alexander and Dominick.
I wish all of you a beautiful Summer!
In closing, I offer you words of wisdom from St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, a Modern Day Saint who reposed in the year 1966, on what it means to make the best and optimal use of our time in “synergy” with God. He says: "Now the Church consists of both her earthly and heavenly parts, for the Son of God came to earth and became man that He might lead man into heaven and make him once again a citizen of Paradise, returning to him his original state of sinlessness and wholeness and uniting him unto Himself. This is accomplished by the action of Divine grace grated through the Church, but man’s effort is also required. God saves His fallen creature by His own love for him, but man’s love for his Creator is also necessary; without it he cannot by saved. Striving towards God and cleaving unto the Lord by its humble love, the human soul obtains power to cleanse itself from sin and to strengthen itself for the struggle to complete victory over sin."
